He is a truly remarkable artist.<br /><br />One thing that always gets me though is this idea that we have to go beyond paint and canvas. It's an idea that's been around since I was an art student in the 1960's.<br /><br />The big problem for me is how to afford to make gigantic things with expensive technological components. Most artists, even good ones, can't afford to construct such lavish pieces.<br /><br />This means that the artists that can afford this way of working have a lot in common with the ultra-rich who can afford their work. Seems like a closed system.<br /><br />I will continue to use paint, canvas and paper until further notice even though it eliminates me from consideration.<br /><br />I almost prefer to just see what an artist can do just with a piece of charcoal(which I am sure Richter can use handily)and forget the expensive fabrications.
